Feels like Summertime

A few pictures from our evening walk yesterday.  It's starting to feel like summertime and we are ready for it!

Scenes from the Weekend

Friday before the rain started we played outside after nap time.  Claire ran around and mowed the driveway until her little legs were worn out. Then it was dinnertime, bath time, story time, and bedtime for my tired little girl.  I spent the rest of the night reading while Bryce did some studying.
We started off our Saturday morning listening to James Taylor while I cooked up a big batch of french toast.
I tried to get some cleaning done while Bryce was at work, but a certain little girl made it a little difficult.  Claire went around the house emptying all of my baskets and then climbed inside the sturdier ones that didn't topple over from her attempts.
Rainy days always put me in the mood for baking.  Claire helped me make a pan of brownies to surprise Bryce with when he came home from work.  Saturday night was another quiet one that was pleasantly uneventful.
Sunday was filled with lots of snuggling, tickling, and somersaults.  Claire's new favorite thing is to do somersaults (all the time).  She balances on her head precariously until she flops over sideways.  We clap and cheer loudly for her then jumps up so excited and proud of herself that joins in on the clapping and cheering with us.  It is the cutest thing to watch.  It was a nice quiet weekend and was just what we needed before all of Bryce's finals this week.

Classic toddler move courtesy of me leaving the bathroom door open last Sunday while we were getting ready for church.  I thought Claire was with Bryce and he thought she was with me.  We came out into the hall and found her happily entertaining herself with the roll of toilet paper.

Spring Evening

Yesterday evening we took Claire's doll pram outside for her so she could push her babies (her Winnie the Pooh, Juliette Rabbit, and doll) around the yard.  It was a fun idea, but it ended up being hard for Claire to push through the grass.  I got some cute pictures then I spent the rest of the time helping nudge it along for her.  We still had fun and all of her smiles made it far worth it.

Claire Olivia 15 Months

Claire turned 15 months old this past Sunday.  I decided not to continue monthly letters after she turned a year old and just do letters on her birthday each year, but I still wanted to write a little post and include some updates about her at this age.  We had a doctor's appointment for her 15 month well check up on Monday.  She is 31 inches tall, 67%, and she finally weighs 20 pounds (20 pounds 2 ounces to be exact, 35%)!  We celebrated Claire finally hitting the 20 pound mark by having a little picnic outside with whole wheat oatmeal chocolate chip cookies.
Claire had to get three shots at this appointment.  She was pretty sad about it and had big alligator tears rolling down her cheeks afterwards.  The nurse gave her a rubber duckie for a prize after the shots.  Claire snatched it quickly, still very cautious of the nurse, but slowly a small smile crept on her face.  It almost made up for the tears.  New bath toys always make bath time extra fun and extra wet!
Claire absolutely adores Rory.  They are the cutest little buddies.  She is constantly plopping down by Rory, laying on her, and giving her hugs and kisses.  She also likes to tease Rory and run off with her toys so Rory will chase her and get them back.  This always results in lots and lots of giggling from Claire.  It's the cutest.

Claire is just like a little sponge at this age.  I am constantly amazed at how quickly she picks things up.  I've been teaching her how to count to three on her abacus and whenever we stack blocks or legos.  She has started copying me and will excitedly shout "Dun, doo, dee!"  She says a good handful of words including Mama (occasionally), Dada (all the time), uh-oh, thank you, good job, all done, no-no, cracker, what's that, what's this, hi, bye, and probably a few more I can't think of on the spot.  She has become a much better eater and likes trying new foods.  If you ask her to she will go get her bunny, bear, doll, milk, water, & shoes and bring them back to you, even if they are in a different room and she has to go searching for them.  Her favorite toys right now are her doll pram, bear, Juliette Rabbit, and her board books.  She loves to play outside and go for walks every day.  She always been a great sleeper, but lately she has started sleeping in longer and it has been sooo nice.  She takes one nap a day that usually lasts 2 1/2-3 hours and goes to bed between 7 and 8 and sleeps until 7 or 7:30 (a few times this past week she slept all the way until 8!).  She is still pretty easy going for the most part but is definitely entering the independent toddler stage where she wants to do things by herself and gets frustrated if something is working the way she wants it to.  She gives the sweetest hugs and kisses and makes me feel like a million bucks.  I don't know what I ever did without her!

Scenes from the Weekend

I haven't done a 'Scenes from the Weekend' post in quite a while so I thought I'd throw one together with a few pictures I've taken over the past few days.

Claire practicing her scales ;).  This little girl is a music baby.  She loves any kind of toy that makes noise or music.
I finished reading this book, Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier, a few days ago.  I can't stop thinking about it.  It was soooo good.  Definitely one of my top favorites now.
The sun came out again melted all the snow.  Claire, Rory, and I were happy to get back to our routine of daily afternoon walks.
Claire has been getting over a cold and cutting a bunch of teeth so this whole past week she has been napping a ton!  She's been taking 3 hour naps almost every day.  I won't lie, it's been nice.
Claire has become so attached to her Juliette Rabbit that we got her for Easter.  She has to take her everywhere we go whether it's for a ride in the car, a trip to the park, to church, or playing outside in the yard.  I think it's pretty adorable though!  When Bryce hasn't been working he has been studying all weekend for a biochemistry test so its mostly been a girls weekend for Claire, Rory, and me.  I'm so glad I always have my two babies, Claire & Rory, to always keep me company!

We all know that life with toddlers is messy.  Very fun, but very messy.  Claire is getting more curious by the day and is figuring out how to get into everything.  Yesterday she was pushing her doll pram around the kitchen and I left for a few seconds to go put some dishtowels in the laundry hamper.  I came back to find she had pulled the oatmeal canister off the shelf in the pantry and spilled it all over the kitchen floor.  When I came in she looked at me and squealed "Oh!" and kept pointing excitedly at the oatmeal all over the floor.  Her reaction was so cute I couldn't help but laugh.  I grabbed my camera and snapped a few pictures to show Bryce later then I let Claire help me sweep up the mess and we went about our day.  Afterwards, I thought about how taking a few pictures of the little mishap helped me not lose my patience over a small mess.  I decided to start a little series on my blog and a hashtag on Instagram, #ClaireOliviaWasHere, to document the unavoidable mishaps and silly events that go along with raising a toddler.  This way I can use something I love (photography) to help me find amusement in what could be some bothersome situations.  Patience hasn't always been something that comes easily to me but I'm hoping this new project and perspective will help!

Claire's portrait this week is one of my favorites from our surprise snow day.
Her face=pure happiness.

April Snow Storm

Yesterday mother nature decided to give us a little surprise.  We woke up to snow in the middle of April, lots and lots of it!  I absolutely love snow, and I was bummed we hardly got any this past winter, so I was thrilled with the crazy snow storm we got, even if it was in April!  I pulled our boots & coats out of storage and we took Claire outside to play around in it for a while.  She started squealing and bouncing up and down as soon as we got outside.  She loved it!  (Just as long as she didn't have to touch it haha!)
Knowing it would melt in a day or two we tried to to stay outside and enjoy the snow as long as we could.  Then we stayed cozy and warm inside and watched the snow fall out the window while I made homemade bread and taco soup for dinner.  It couldn't have been more perfect.  It felt like we got to live in a snow globe just for a day.  And it made up for the disappointing winter we had, just a little.
