Claire turned 14 weeks old today.  She's still smiling and talking all the time.  She's been staying awake more during the day and it's been lots of fun.  On Tuesday she rolled over for the first time!  She was doing tummy time and leaned far enough to the side that she rolled over.  She hasn't done it again since but she's been really close.  She also found her bottom lip and has been sucking on it a lot this week.  She makes the cutest face when she does it.  She's started waking up at 4 a.m. & at 6 a.m. ever since she hit her 3 month growth spurt so we're working on getting her to sleep through the night again.  Although, sometimes I don't even mind when she wakes up because I miss her when she sleeps :).

Easter 2014

We had so much fun celebrating Easter this past weekend.  It was the first big holiday we've celebrated with Claire.  In our Easter basket we got Cadbury mini eggs and I made homemade Reeses eggs (only a few are pictured but the recipe I used made a whole cookie sheet full!).  I sewed Claire's Easter dress and made her a matching bow.

Saturday morning Claire and I went shopping with my mom, Laci, and Lydia. My mom had us pick out Easter outfits for our girls.  We are so lucky we have such a fun grandma who loves to spoil her grand babies :) Saturday night we had dinner and an Easter Egg hunt with Bryce's family.  Then on Sunday we went to church with my parents and afterwards had dinner with my family.

Easter was really special for me this year.  If you haven't seen it, the Easter message on easter.mormon.org is absolutely beautiful.  I read through it again last night and I was just in awe thinking about what our savior, Jesus Christ has done for all of us.  I am beyond grateful that because of Him I can be sealed to my family forever, because of Him we can change and start over, because of Him death is not the end, and because of Him we can live again with God.  What a beautiful message to remember not just on Easter, but every single day.  All that is beautiful and good in my life is because of Him and I am so grateful!

Claire Olivia Week by Week: 3 Months

 photo DSC_0127-10_zps875944e2.jpg Dear Claire,

Today you turned three months old.  I can't believe I'm the mother of a three month old!  It breaks my heart a little that you are already getting so big.  You have grown and changed quite a bit over the past month.  You still have tons of hair.  I think you actually have more now than when you were born.  Your hair is probably what people comment on the most.  Everyone thinks it's darling and can't believe how much of it you have.

You love to coo and make noises all the time, especially when me or your dad talk to you.  You can recognize my voice and you turn to look for me in the room when I'm talking.  You smile all the time, and I absolutely love it.  Your whole face lights up and you just look so happy!

You've gotten much better at holding your head up and now you hold your chest and head up with your arms when you are on your tummy.  You kick your legs and pump your arms whenever you lay on your back and we talk to you.  You get super excited and squeal and wiggle.  You especially love to do this in the bath.

This past week we passed a milestone I was really dreading.  You had your first cold.  I've been so nervous about you getting sick, but luckily your cold was really mild.  You were a little congested at the beginning of the week and then Wednesday you and I both woke up with really stuffy noses.  Your nose was pretty stuffy and you had a rough time sleeping for a few days but by Friday you seemed to be on the mend.  I finally got you back on your schedule today, probably just in time for you to hit your three month growth spurt....and then I'll have to start all over again :).  But that's okay, we're getting really good at working that stuff out together.

I hope when you read these letters one day you will be able to tell how much I love you. You are the sweetest little girl and I'm so happy I get to be your mom.   Every day I spend with you my heart is filled with more love, and I don't know how that's possible.  I should probably end this letter and get some sleep.  Tomorrow is your first Easter!  I can't wait for you to wear the little Easter dress I made for you.  I'm so excited.  Holidays are so much more fun with you.

I love you sweet girl!

Love,

Mom

My Little Owl Baby

A little known fact to most people is that Claire's hair is pretty curly when it is wet.  It's so soft and fine though, that once it dries it goes mostly straight with a little wave.  I'm hoping the curl will stay when she is older and doesn't have such baby-fine hair anymore.  I think she looks just like Bryce when her hair is curly! photo DSC_0084_zps3a3c896c.jpgI always get my best roll inspection done when I'm drying her off.  She is getting a fairly notable amount :)  Goodness, just look at that cute girl.  This is what dreams are made of.

Claire turned 12 weeks old yesterday.  She finally has started pushing up on her arms and lifting her head during tummy time.  I have been working on this with her forever!  She used to just lay on the side of her head and suck on her hands.  She was just content as can be to lay there but I could never get her to lift her head and look around.  Thanks to the suggestion from some other moms I used a rolled up blanket under her chest to help her start.  I only used it for a day and a half then I had her try it without the blanket and she did it all on her own.  I was a proud mom :)  Now she will hold herself up and look around every time she's on her tummy.  I think she finally realized its more fun to look around and see things (most the time at least).

We've been dog owners for one whole year!

As of yesterday, it has been exactly one year since we brought home this sweet little 7 week old puppy.  I won't gush over her too much, since I already did that in her birthday post, but if you weren't clued in by how much I talk about her, we really REALLY love Rory.  She is the best dog and we couldn't imagine our lives without her now.

Claire Olivia Week by Week: 11 Weeks

Claire turned 11 weeks old yesterday.  This past week I finally got her on a 3 hour schedule!  She was eating every 2 1/2 hours during the day still up until last Monday, but finally she started sleeping until the three hour mark after her last feeding.  Once I knew she could I just started holding her out until the three hour mark if she woke up too early.  After a day and a half she got into a schedule and has stuck to it ever since.  It has been so nice!

She has basically been sleeping through the night so I decided to try moving her to her crib last Wednesday night.  The transition was actually much easier than I anticipated.  I think it helped that she had been taking all of her naps in her crib already.  Since she was about a month old I followed a lot of the babywise method and I think it has helped so much.  We start the first feeding at 7 a.m. and still do the eat, play, sleep routine (every three hours now).  She takes four 2 hour naps a day after every eat & play cycle.  After her 7 p.m. feeding we do her bedtime routine and I bathe her, rock her, and sing to her.  I put her in her crib between 8 & 8:30 pm. then I wake her up at 10 p.m. for her last feeding (babywise calls it the "dream feed").  I keep it dark in her room and nurse her in the rocking chair.  She nurses until she falls back asleep then I put her right back in her crib without any awake time.  Then she sleeps in her crib until 7 a.m.  She sometimes fusses a little around 5 a.m., that's when she was in the habit waking up to nurse.  She's not all the way awake, her eyes are still closed and she just cries a little, so all I have to do is give her a binky and she puts herself right back to sleep until 7 a.m.  Supposedly after a week or two of this she'll learn to sleep through it once the habit of her middle of the night feeding is gone.  I am pretty lucky she has been such a good baby, but I definitely think sticking to a routine and schedule has helped immensely.  She knows what to expect every day, and I know her schedule so I can easily figure out what she needs if she ever fusses.
(Sorry that was so detailed, just documenting for my own benefit and for future babies :)

I wish I could freeze time every once in a while.  I will miss these days when she is so small and just wants to cuddle all the time.  I will probably want to freeze time at every stage though.  Being her mom is just the best.  This girl has my whole heart.
