Claire Olivia Week by Week: 10 Weeks

photo DSC_0660_zpsf2058873.jpg photo DSC_0662_zpse9733fe4.jpg photo DSC_0664_zpsa0265356.jpg Claire turned 10 weeks old yesterday!  I took these pictures yesterday but didn't get a chance to post them until now since we were gone at a baby blessing most of the day.  It was Claire's first time going to church.  She finally got to wear the cute dress that my mom gave her for Christmas!
I have a song that I sing to Claire a lot when I'm putting her to sleep.  Lately whenever I sing it to her she has started "singing" with me.  It is the cutest thing ever.  I lay her on my chest and pat her back while I sing and she coos right along with me until she falls asleep.  Every time she does it I can't help but laugh.  I really need to get it on video, it is something I always want to remember.  Claire also loves when I talk to her.  She smiles really big, wiggles her arms, kicks her legs, and squeals back at me.  I love that she gets so excited, she makes me feel like a million bucks!

P.S. I got Claire singing on video when I put her down for her nap a few hours after I posted this yesterday.  The video is below.  This girl is the cutest :)

Claire has been loving bath time.

Claire has been playing lots with the activity gym Bryce built for her.

We've all been trying to sneak in the occasional nap, but Rory and Claire seem to be the only ones who have any success with this.
photo DSC_0625_zpscec71655.jpgWe've been eating way too many cadbury eggs.

I've been sewing up a storm.  I finished Claire's blessing dress a few days ago.  Despite being an extreme perfectionist I'm really happy with how this dress turned out (this is the second one I've made).  I can't wait for her to wear it in a couple of weeks.

And we can't help kissing these cute cheeks all day long.

Claire is nine weeks old today.  She turned two months old on Wednesday and is 9 weeks today.  Not much has changed since I posted her 2 month update a few days ago, but I still took pictures anyway.  I can't help it, she is just so dang cute!

Spring Break

 photo DSC_0396_zps3abb6815.jpg
Last week was Bryce's spring break.  He had the entire week off from school and work.  It was so nice to have him home!  The first order of business was to give our poor shaggy dog a haircut.

Bryce did a great job.  Rory looks pretty cute with her new haircut and I think she likes not being so hot all the time now that she doesn't have so much hair!

We tried out our stroller for the first time and went for a walk (a really short one) around our neighborhood.  My leg has recovered enough that I can now walk with shoes on (hooray!).  I'm getting more feeling and movement back but my leg is still really weak.  Only some of the muscles and tendons are working so I still have to walk really slowly and still with a limp.  I'm getting a brace, hopefully this next week, to help me walk a little better and I am so excited for it!
 photo DSC_0427_zps88cf6e83.jpg
photo DSC_0417_zps3ce3c6e8.jpg On our walk I finally had a good excuse to bundle Claire up in her little snowsuit.  She didn't seem to mind the stroller at all.  She just slept the whole time :).  It was so nice to get out and get some fresh air.  I'm hoping with the brace I'll be able to get out and go on walks more often.

We spent the rest of Spring Break watching movies, doing puzzles, and sleeping in.  My favorite part was having Bryce around so much and getting to watch him spend lots of time with our daughter!

Claire Olivia Week by Week: 2 Months Old

Dear Claire,

You are now two months old.  You weigh 11 pounds 10 ounces and are 23 inches long.  You just keep getting bigger whether I like it or not!  You got your first shots at your doctor's appointment on Monday and you did soo good.  You only cried for a few seconds afterwards.  Once I was able to cuddle and rock you, you immediately calmed down.  It made me so happy that you know I'm your mom and I can make you feel better.

The last few weeks you have been smiling all the time.  It is so much fun!  I talk to you all day long in my obnoxious mommy voice just to see you smile.  You've also started cooing and making lots of loud noises back to me when I talk to you.  I love it!
 photo DSC_0526_zps4947fae8.jpg
Surprisingly, you still haven't lost any hair!  Your skin has lightened up a bit, probably because all of the jaundice is gone.  You have pretty brown eyes that are so expressive!  You look around at everything all the time and are getting very curious.  Ever since we brought you home from the hospital I have read to you every day.  Some people probably think that's silly since you are so little, but I really think you like it as much as I do.  We sit in the rocking chair while I read to you and you stare at all the colorful pages the whole time.

 photo DSC_0522_zpsfec6a590.jpg
You stick to our little routine really well now!  First you eat, then you are awake for an hour.  Almost exactly on the hour mark after you've eaten I can tell you are tired.  Then we cuddle and I put you in your crib for your nap.  You take all of your naps during the day in your crib now.  You do so good, you don't even cry when I lay you in there anymore.  You usually nap for an hour and a half and then wake up ready to eat again.  You sleep for a long six hour stretch at night, and then usually another 3-4 hour stretch again after you've eaten.
 photo DSC_0519_zps0590e80a.jpg
You are such an easy baby!  Seriously every one tells me they can't believe what an easy baby you are.  You hardly ever cry, you go to sleep for your naps in about a minute, and you are mostly sleeping through the night.  I have to say it makes my job pretty easy.  Although, I'm sure you will make up for it down the road, probably in your teenage years :).
 photo DSC_0513_zpsc82532df.jpg
Every single day I still feel so lucky that I get to be your mom.  I have the best job in the entire world.  I have never had such a sense of fulfillment from any job I've had in the past.  I feel like this is where I fit in the world, being your mother.  I love you sweet girl!

Love,

Mom

733 Days

DSC_6020Claire is taking a nap and Bryce just took Rory out for a walk so I thought I'd take a few minutes to jot down my thoughts about being married for two years, or as of today exactly 733 days.  The past two years have flown by and we've gone through a lot of changes.  I have had two different jobs and am now a stay-at-home mom.  Bryce has finished two years of school, and after this semester only has one year left of undergrad.  We paid off my car, got a puppy, AND had a baby!

When I look at the past two years of our marriage and the life we've created, I could pinch myself.  Sometimes it just feels too good to be true.  My husband is the best friend I've ever had.  For as long as I can remember I've wanted a dog, and we have one!  I've also always wanted to be a mom, and I finally am!  I just feel so lucky, which isn't to say that the past two years haven't also been hard.  But the hard times and sacrifice make it all the more worthwhile.

On the night of our anniversary before we fell asleep, Bryce and I laid in bed and talked about the things we've learned about each other since we've been married.

What I've learned about Bryce:
He hates Velveeta cheese.
He is a very violent sleeper.  I've been elbowed and kneed on more than one occasion.
He likes puzzles as much as I do.
He is very tolerant of having his picture taken all the time.
He can build any project I come up with.
He loves to eat leftovers for lunch the next day.
He is the best dad.

What Bryce said he has learned about me:
"I'll probably never get you to quit drinking diet coke."
"You laugh a lot."
"You don't hate meat as much as you did when we were first married."
"You like to read blogs a lot."
"You love dogs."
"You are a busy body and always have to be doing something."
"You like to take a lot of pictures."
"You are the best mom, but I already knew that before I married you."

This is just a short list of some of the things we've learned.  It's nice to know there are still things to learn about the person you know best in the world.  I look forward to learning more and more for years to come.

2 Year Anniversary

DSC_6153 Two years ago today, I made the best decision of my life and married my best friend. The past two years have been quite a journey full of love, trials, and lots of learning. I plan on writing a longer post later but wanted leave a quick note on our actual anniversary. We are celebrating really low key this year since my leg is still recovering and we have a seven week old baby. We rented a few movies from red box and got Olive Garden take out for dinner. We'll be spending the rest of the night cuddled up on the couch with our little Claire and our puppy Rory.  2 years down, forever to go!

Claire Olivia Week by Week: 7 Weeks Old

photo DSC_0379_zps286afbb6.jpgClaire is 7 weeks old today.  This past week she started smiling (at us and not just in her sleep) and it is my favorite thing!  I spend a lot of time trying to get her to smile now (basically the whole time she is awake).  Every time she does it I just giggle and smile back at her.  It is the best feeling ever.  She has also started sleeping for longer stretches at night.  She usually sleeps for 6 or 7 hours and just wakes up to eat once around 4 or 5 a.m.  She's never really been too difficult at night.  Even when she was eating every 3 or  4 hours at night she's always gone right back to sleep after she eats, but the longer stretches of sleep have been so nice!

Claire still really loves her swing--I do too :).  It's nice to be able to put her in her swing and have a few extra minutes to get things done around the house.  She loves to talk and smile at the mobile and mirror.

photo 13046991464_bef310e320_o_zpsd995cd27.jpgShe still gives me this serious face a lot which makes it even funnier when she smiles.  She will look at me all seriously while I'm talking to her and all the sudden break out into a big grin.  I know I say this in pretty much every post, but I love being a mom so much.  I have never been happier!

Playing Dress Up

Today is my mom's birthday.  A few months after I was married she found a box of old baby clothes.  She went through the box of clothes with my sister and me and we each chose a few of our old baby outfits to keep.  I thought it would be fun to surprise my mom with a picture of Claire in one of the old baby outfits for her birthday.

Even though Claire is only six weeks old, based on the pictures I think it's safe to say she had as much fun as I did playing dress up.  I really love having a little girl :)

Claire Olivia Week by Week: 6 Weeks Old

 photo DSC_0334_zps0f92819f.jpg photo DSC_0333_zpsd76c37be.jpg photo DSC_0330_zps53db3058.jpg
My little Claire Olivia is 6 weeks old today!  Since I've already been documenting and posting Claire's weekly growth through pictures on the blog I decided I would officially make it into a weekly post.  I'll just do little updates with pictures once a week and then a big update with a letter to her once a month.
At six weeks old Claire still LOVES to cuddle and be held.  I am getting really good at typing with one hand :)  She sleeps best cuddled up on my chest.  She also sleeps really well in her rock and play sleeper we are using for a bassinet, but she's not too fond of her crib.  I've been having her take all her naps in her crib the past few days.  It hasn't been very fun for her but today she went to sleep without crying for both her morning naps.  Yay for progress!  We'll just keep working at it so I can eventually move her to the nursery. Happy six weeks, Claire!
