Watch Me Grow: 22 Weeks

DSC_0005 DSC_0003

Rory Girl is 22 weeks old.  She is pretty much healed from her surgery and we can finally take her on walks, bath her (I'm so excited about this one), and let her run and play all she wants again!  She has officially lost all her baby teeth so she is almost out of the teething stage.  We have seen a huge difference in her temperament the last few weeks.  She has mellowed out a ton and is losing a bit of her puppy rambunctiousness.
This is where Rory stands for a good while every day waiting to see if the neighbor dog will come out and say hi.
We went to a carnival party Friday night for my sister-in-law's birthday.  We did a booth using Rory called "Get your picture taken with the Bearded Lady."  She was amazingly calm and content in everyone's pictures and she looked pretty dang cute.  It's good she's so cute because I just had to clean up her puke out of the hallway.  As cute as dogs are, they are still pretty gross sometimes.

Watch Me Grow: 21 Weeks

DSC_0005 DSC_0002 DSC_0007 Rory is 21 weeks old. She weighs about 34 pounds now. She is still healing up from her surgery last week when she was spayed. It's been a bit of a challenge to keep her from running and jumping all the time. She still sleeps a lot but every now and then she gets these bursts of energy and tries to sprint around our little apartment. We have to frantically catch her and then put her in her crate until she calms down. Saturday is when she is allowed to resume normal activity. We are really looking forward to being able to walk her and play with her again!  She is still losing her baby teeth.  Every now and then we'll find one on the ground or one will fall out while she plays with her stuffed duck.  It's a little weird finding dog teeth around but it's kind of funny.  She is still as sweet as ever and cuddles up by me on the couch whenever I'm working on the computer.  She's a good little buddy to have around.

Date Night

It's been a while since Bryce and I have gone on an actual date.  Saturday morning Bryce helped his uncle move, at noon we went to the temple with the youth in our ward, and Bryce spent the rest of the day studying for an Organic Chemistry test.  By 8 o clock that night I was sick of watching episodes of Parks and Rec by myself and decided I would plan a surprise date.  I had to go to the store to pick up a few groceries anyway so I purchased a few supplies for our date night.  I got the idea for the date here.  When I got back from the store I quickly printed off an invitation and gave it to Bryce.  It said he needed to meet me in the driveway at 9 o clock for a surprise date.

The first thing we did was make geysers with diet coke and mentos.  As you can tell from the photo Bryce was pretty excited.
After we were done with the geysers we went back inside and I told Bryce our next experiment involved soap, Ivory soap specifically.  He tried to guess but wasn't able to figure out what we were going to do with it.

I hadn't actually tried this but I had seen it floating around on the web a lot so I realy hoped it would work.
You put the bar of soap in the microwave for 2 minutes and it turns it into a sort of cloud!  We both really had fun with this one.  It was really cool to watch it expand into a huge fluffy blob thing.
DSC_0188 After our experiments I made coconut lime sprite and homemade sweet potato fries with honey mustard for our dessert.  Date Nights are the best and I think they are really important in a marriage.  It's important to make it a priority to spend one on one time with each other no matter what the activity.  Bryce and I decided we're going to try to do them more frequently and switch off who is in charge every week.  Hopefully it will be something we can stick too!

Watch Me Grow: 20 Weeks

DSC_0145 DSC_0143DSC_0151 Rory girl is 20 weeks old.  Yesterday she had a big vet appointment.  She got spayed, got her rabies shot & a few other vaccinations, and we had her microchipped.  She was really loopy and out of it all day from the anesthesia.  She basically slept the entire day but she did not want to be alone.  If we would leave the room she would start whining, it was so sad.  We watched a lot of movies & cuddled with her while she slept.  Even though it was sad I really liked how cuddly she was.  She's acting more like herself today and finally eating so she seems to be recovering well.  Now we just have to try to keep her from running, jumping, rough playing, and getting overly excited for ten days.  Yeah....wish us luck.

Watch Me Grow: 19 Weeks

Rory is 19 weeks old!  I can't believe how fast it has gone by.  She has been so good lately.  We ordered a "gentle lead" on amazon and it has made a huge difference on walks with her.  It is a head harness that goes around her snout and high on her head.  You just have to apply a little pressure and she responds immediately.  She no longer yanks and tries to pull ahead the whole walk.  It has been so nice!  I need to get a picture of her in it.  She isn't the biggest fan of it but it works great.  Rory did really good on the 4th of July.  I wondered if she would be terrified of fireworks but she was not scared at all.  We took her outside on our front lawn and watched all our neighbors fireworks and lit a few cheap ones in our driveway.  She didn't get scared she was just curious and would stop what she was doing and watch them intently.  Those were the biggest events of week but I just made Bryce go get the scale to see how much she weighs....31 pounds! (Thanks Brycer)  She's going to be 60+ pounds in no time!

4th of July 2013

Our 4th of July was pretty low key this year.  Bryce went fishing early in the morning with his dad.  There was no way I was waking up at 6 am on my day off so I stayed home and slept in.  After I woke up I did some pretty exciting things like scrub my fridge and clean my shower curtain.  It was actually really nice to have a day off to get a few things done I'd been putting off for a while.
After I finished my chores Rory cuddled up to me on the couch while I did some reading.
Untitled Bryce got home in the late afternoon then we picked up some dinner and went to a concert in Layton, the New American Philharmonic Symphony.  After the concert we came home, ate drumstick ice cream cones, and lit some cheap fireworks in our driveway.  Rory wasn't sure if she liked them or not.  We laughed at her confusion trying to decide if she should be scared or try to attack them.  I love holidays with my little family.  I have so much fun no matter what we do.  I'm so grateful to live in this country and I am proud to be an American.  Happy Birthday USA!
